The Mountain Tree Blog

What’s happening right now to the trees in the mountains of Colorado?

Trees are beginning to come awake!  As soil temperatures warm- microbial activity within the soil is becoming active.  Flower buds are swelling and root growth is beginning to occur.  Any time soil temperatures are above freezing your trees still need water.  If it continues to stay dry, you may need to apply supplemental irrigation.  This time of year can be extra taxing on trees sometimes as irrigation systems are still inactive and it can get dry.

Be sure to monitor your soil moisture and apply supplemental water if needed, especially on newly planted trees.   Once every 2 weeks is fine but give em a deep soak.  Insects are also beginning to become active.  Apply your dormant oils to scale insects and when mites have been problematic.
